person of the week: Pawel Zagrodnik

Person of the week: Pawel.

Pawel Zagrodnik of Poland (white)
 and Masashi Ebinuma of Japan
lay on the mat after their match
in the Men's -66 kg Judo
on Day 1
of the London 2012
Olympic Games at ExCeL.

Pawel wins this week's award for his determintaion.
He was born on 10th Sept 1987.
His mother named him after the literary - giant, Pawel Huelle
who made his literary debut with
"Weiser Dawidek"
(which was later made into a film)
Our Pawel went to school in Poland
and met his fiance during high school.
He attended the Finance - School of Banking, in Chorzow ( Poland )
He always struggled to fit in
and concentrated all his frustration
and ambivalence he felt towards teenage-Polish life
into judo.

He was never bullied at school. (His lethal ability was wwell known)
Although he lost to Masashi on Day 1 of the London olympics (a bit controversial at present)
his fiance is happy that he is not hurt
and she looks forward to him returning to Poland.
She is eager to continue finalisation of their wedding preparations.
20% of Polish women choose not to marry.
Pawel counts himself lucky.

alles gaan gepaard.

person of the week: Stefanie

She lives in 7th avenue
she has 2 beautiful blonde daughters
and she cares for Danny, who can't see straight.
I don't ask what his mother did to him
I just focus on getting another spoonful of butternut into his laughing mouth

and she cares for a baby.
Christiaan.
and she is a place of safety for "Blessing"
He is a messy eater.
he loves fish fingers. with tomato sauce.

and the kitchen is crumb-crumb patched with attention
and story telling
and toys
and dinner prayers
and her lovely husband

and I haven't seen such a tiny scullery in a while
and I haven't felt such warmth and grace
in an even longer while
Stefanie makes this house happen.
This safe house.

neruda every time

The Light Wraps You

The light wraps you in its mortal flame.
Abstracted pale mourner, standing that way
against the old propellers of the twighlight
that revolves around you.

Speechless, my friend,
alone in the loneliness of this hour of the dead
and filled with the lives of fire,
pure heir of the ruined day.

A bough of fruit falls from the sun on your dark garment.
The great roots of night
grow suddenly from your soul,
and the things that hide in you come out again
so that a blue and palled people
your newly born, takes nourishment.

Oh magnificent and fecund and magnetic slave
of the circle that moves in turn through black and gold:
rise, lead and possess a creation
so rich in life that its flowers perish
and it is full of sadness.

to make you hear as I want you to hear me.

So that you will hear me
So that you will hear me
my words
sometimes grow thin
as the tracks of the gulls on the beaches.

Necklace, drunken bell
for your hands smooth as grapes.

And I watch my words from a long way off.
They are more yours than mine.
They climb on my old suffering like ivy.

It climbs the same way on damp walls.
You are to blame for this cruel sport.
They are fleeing from my dark lair.
You fill everything, you fill everything.

Before you they peopled the solitude that you occupy,
and they are more used to my sadness than you are.

Now I want them to say what I want to say to you
to make you hear as I want you to hear me.

The wind of anguish still hauls on them as usual.
Sometimes hurricanes of dreams still knock them over.
You listen to other voices in my painful voice.

Lament of old mouths, blood of old supplications.
Love me, companion. Don't forsake me. Follow me.
Follow me, companion, on this wave of anguish.

But my words become stained with your love.
You occupy everything, you occupy everything.

I am making them into an endless necklace
for your white hands, smooth as grapes.

person of the week: Lwandile Kgoisa

This young man is part of the Western Cape Tygerberg: Metro emergency service.
He is 32 and devotes his time to: saving people.
I can't think of a more satisfying job !

He assisted with the earlier accident involving a bakkie
and sedan on the corner of N1 -turnoff and Old Oak Road.

It was pouring with rain....
it bucketed down
it sloshed from heaven
I can't describe to you, how wet everything was....
I had to use the super-fast windscreen wipe mode, which I have never used.
On the radio: Putin was upset about floods, it seemed like the whole earth was being flooded...
mm....but we received a promise that it would not happened Again, so I stick with that.

anyway

so, the alarm goes off in the office,
as a passer-by rings the ambulance service
and Lwandile and co hops in the van,
switches on the siren and comes to the rescue.
amazing
diligent
wonderful.

they don't ask who's fault it was
they don't check if the car is insured:
they just help
they save.
Lwandile is person of the week: for selflessness and care.

Donderdag diensbaarheid

Vier diensbare Donderdag.

house and home and us

 what constitutes a home?
bricks & glass?
aluminium perhaps?
granite and heated-towel rails?
steel and smiles?
an offer?
a hint of garden?
some love and courage?
dreams and curtains?
some signatures....and conviction?
some levies and cooking?
some admin and plascon?
i don't really know...
but its fun finding out....

in awe of tennis

the moon was shaping itself into a tennisball tonight
as it was peering over the centre court stripes...
"Quiet please"
and wished it could've been part of the action

no sooner has it dusted off its pale face
ace
the players shake hands and walk off.

it feels pushed around the celestial court by the sun
it merely keeps the tented- queues company
until the sun comes up
and serves it into the far-side...

person of the week; Charles Messier

Person of the week goes to an astronomer.
Charles Messier

he will be the first astronomer I have featured in this blog.
He found the coment which brushed closest to earth's blue-cheek...
he used a special computer, which they call an orbit computer. ( Anders Johan Lexel )

On July 1, 1770, the comet passed 0.015 astronomical units from Earth, or approximately 6 times the radius of the Moon's orbit

The coment (called: Lexels comet)
went missing though.. and Charles has been looking ever since...
He departed on 12th April 1817 to continue his search for the missing comet....
stay true
stay real
stay connected
